Ruptured silicone breast implants can cause breast pain or changes in the shape of the breast. Usually when your silicon breast implant ruptures, it can be unnoticeable as silicon can be trapped in the surrounding tissues. This is known as silent rupture. However, tissues can become irritated or swollen after the rupture. If you suspect that your breast implant had ruptured, it is advisable to look for your plastic surgeon as soon as possible to schedule for an MRI or ultrasound.
